How to extract images from a Word document?

How to quickly extract all the images from a Word document.

Sometimes it has happened to us that a client provided a Word document and asked us to use the images inside it for some reason, and apparently it is not easy to extract them. Here we are going to explain a trick to get them easily.

If you open the document in Microsoft Word and click on the image, there is no option to save it, so you think the only solution is to copy the image and paste it into an image editor, such as Paint. This is fine if you only want to extract one image from the Word file, but if there are several this becomes very tedious, and you will probably take quite a while to achieve your goal.

The solution to this problem is very simple: go to the menu, File / Save as… and save the Word document as an HTML file. Microsoft Word will automatically generate an html file and a directory with all the images in the document, so you just have to go to that directory and get all the images you need.

I hope this trick solves this problem for you very quickly.

Is this happening on a project in production?
